1988 BMW M5
This 1988 BMW M5 was 1 of 1,340 total E28 M5 ever produced for the US Market. Purchased by the original owner in 1988 in Colorado he went on to own the car for 30 years! Our car is a true survivor as it has been maintained original for all these years a whooping 34 years later. Upon arriving to our inventory we went ahead and did a paint meter walkaround and every panel metered original. In addition every panel maintains its original vin sticker minus the drivers door which you can see the mark where it was but most likely just fell off due to age. Body is in good condition with no signs or evidence of any rust. Being an original paint car however does come with some caveats such as some scratches / dents and weathering. Factory BBS wheels are straight and true, and are wrapped in michelin tires on all 4 corners. Car maintains all original exterior glass and has not been modified in anyway.
Interior is in good shape considering the year and miles. The dash has its typical cracks as the majority of e24,e28,e30 and other BMW of the era. A dash cover is placed on top to prevent further cracking. The cluster functions as it should including the odometer which currently reads just over 133k miles. Seats are in good shape with no rips or tears and is still soft and supple to the touch. In addition the seats are heated and powered. Headliner shows nicely and is not sagging. Our car still has the original radio which works as it should including the power antenna. All 4 windows work as they should as well as the power sunroof. Original shift knob is showing its age as seen in photos. In the trunk a new battery was put in dated 2022. Under the rear carpet is a full size spare. Open the tool compartment and practically all the tools are there and in really nice shape. Car has been converted to R134 AC however could use a recharge.
The 3.5-liter S38B35 inline-six features individual throttle bodies and was factory rated at 256 horsepower and 243 lb-ft of torque. Engine and transmission are in excellent mechanical order. Car turns on instantly at the turn of the key and has a fantastic idle and there is no smoke on start up. These cars were only optioned with 5 speed manual. Engine pulls strong through the gears all the way to red line. Clutch engagement is smooth and easy to operate. There is no grinding or any issues in any gear. Carfax shows a clean history with the same owner from 1988 to 2018. The car fax shows meticulous services almost every 10k miles at Colorado BMW dealership.
Bottom of the car is rust free, the car should pass any emissions testing as it has all factory exhaust
