The Porsche “Speedster” is a special edition 911 that focuses on open-top driving pleasure while retaining the aerodynamics of the coupe using a curved windshield and a revised body that stretches the rear body line all the way to the back headrest – a redesign that’s recognized across the world.
First introduced in 1954 with the 356, the Speedster model was brought back in the 930 in 1989 and then followed by the 964 Carrera-based Speedster in 1994. The 964 Speedster retained the 3.6L flat-six engine producing 274hp and a five-speed manual. The signature aerodynamic Speedster body line was implemented using a large bubble cover over the manually retractable roof. According to Porsche, this example is only one of 930 964 Speedsters built and is said to have been completed in June 1993 but was handed over to Vittorio Strosek for extensive modification.
The renowned Porsche & Lamborghini design firm STROSEK Auto Design was founded by Vittorio Strosek in 1982. Vittorio had years of design education and experience prior to founding his own design company. Throughout the years Vittorio and his team designed some of the most special custom automotive examples in existence and has also assisted in many manufacturing and motorsport applications outside the custom automotive world.
This example is a full Strosek Mega Speedster conversion – one of only 15 in existence and one of only three originally sold to US customers. Retaining the original Maritime Blue paint, the rear end has been widened to resemble that of a 911 Turbo and the front end has been transformed, displaying signature Strosek design. Small, almost robotic looking Strosek headlights that are molded into the front fenders give command to the aerodynamic features of the Mega Speedster, complimented by revised side mirrors and aerodynamic inlets before the back wheel. The Mega Speedster sits on a set of 3-piece 17” OZ Racing wheels finished with a brushed five-spoke face and a deep, polished lip.
The Maritime Blue exterior, a beautiful, eye-catching yet soft color is complimented by a redone interior. This example of the 964 speedster originally had a gray/Maritime interior but all gray trim was replaced with black – allowing the Maritime Blue finish found on the seats, cluster and door pulls/handles. The Mega Speedster features Strosek-modified independent adjustable suspension and “big red” Porsche OEM ventilated brakes.
This example sits at just under 6000 miles and was regularly maintained after original delivery to Fred Opert Racing in 1994. An original Certificate of Authenticity and a delivery letter to RMC Miami are available upon request.
