RMC Miami presents an excellent example of a 1988 Ferrari Testarossa.
Perhaps the pinnacle of bold styling… Every design aspect of the Ferrari Testarossa commands attention from the wide rear, side strakes, and low, wedge-shaped profile making it a cultural symbol of the 1980’s having been featured in countless movies, music videos and advertisements. It’s basically the original “cultural” Ferrari.
Testarossa, translated to “Red Head” has an interesting history. It was an attempt to make a US-legal 512BBi by improving safety aspects and emissions. Additionally the car was generally more well rounded than the 512 from a performance standpoint having more power (390hp) and grip.
Although the flat-12 in the Testarossa had the same bore and stroke as the 512BBi, it was the first Ferrari to have four valves per cylinder and featured crank-driven overhead camshafts rather than using idler gears.
The Testarossa features a tubular steel frame and independent front and rear suspension with unequal wishbone setups. The rear has an interesting twin-damper setup on each side to support the massively equipped rear end.
Direct is an understatement. With aspects such as no power steering, and spirited gated manual transmission, a massive V12 right behind you and a super low seating position, you feel connected to the machine and to the road. Power delivery is smooth and with an original Tubi exhaust enhancing the vocals of the 4.9L V12, driving is truly sensational. Suspension feels solid and enhanced thanks to a custom coilover setup done by the current owner, shifting is direct and steering is obviously quite heavy. From a visuals standpoint, the Rosso Corsa exterior shines brighter than all else – paired with true 80’s styling cues, this example commands tons of attention from bystanders even if they don’t know exactly what they’re looking at. Brushed gold faces and polished lips on the 18” 512TR spec BBS LMs pair perfectly with the Red making this machine pop even more. Tinted front fog lights and tail lights also aid in enhancing the Rosso Corsa finish while the pleasant beige interior brings a classy vintage vibe to the machine.
This example has been well preserved to perform at its peak potential. Numerous components in multiple systems of the car have been replaced. Below is a list of services performed:
