For those not familiar, the Mercedes-Benz E500 Limited was a run of 951 units produced for the European & Japanese market. These cars were available in either Sapphire Black or Brilliant Silver with gray, green or red mottled leather interiors as options. A Birds Eye Maple trim was standard however the normal Burl Wood was available on request. These vehicles originally shipped with 190 Evo II wheels as well. Each & every single E500 Limited has the “958” options code (VIN sheet provided in photo roll).
There’s literally no bad angle for this machine. Finished in bright Brilliant Silver metallic paint, it’s a simple but luxurious color that highlights vintage Mercedes style. Large fender arches from the factory engulf the 18” JAuto BT90S wheels (finished with a matching silver face and deep polished lip) giving this 124 a mean wide look from all angles. The JAuto vintage rear section exhaust has factory AMG squared tips that gives an aggressive touch to the rear end.
The interior is just as well kept as the exterior. The 958 Limited trim features a gradient print leather finish on the seat centers and door cards. Most examples come in Blue or Green finish but the Red gradient is quite rare. Paired with black accents all around, it’s a timeless design.
Under the hood, the 5.0L M119 power plant has been well maintained. Other than a Samco radiator hose set, it’s a factory setup.
This example is in outstanding condition. Higher mileage is commonly mistaken for an unreliable vintage machine when in reality, it’s quite the opposite when owned by the right individual. The Brilliant Silver paint is in excellent condition showing practically no chips or scratches. The JAuto wheels have no rash or chips as well.
The interior condition practically matches the exterior. Top to bottom, the headliner and dash are in perfect condition. No sagging, no bubbling. The leather seats are in excellent condition as well. The driver’s seat shows slight signs of aging but removable seat covers have been used to help preserve the leather. The original spare tire and tool kit are included in this example and all trunk lining (visible and not) are intact.
Regarding drivability, this 124 pulls excellent. No quirks, no misfires and the transmission feel is extremely crisp, practically modern regarding feel. High speed cruising is no issue.
