Many have lost the essence of the true definition and function of a proper touring car. Many collectors have stashed these cars for the last 20 years not knowing the exhilarating experience to man handle such a special, lost breed of Ferrari. Before 0-60 times took over, people wanted to maintain high speeds for distance, this is what a Testarossa has completely shocked us with. After endless hours and money sorting a properly owned and driven TR, we finally get it: long distance speed is what she was born for and she does it well. Whether it’s the Wangan, Autobahn or Palmetto expressway… this is the ultimate high speed cruiser… and it looks insane. In the ferrari world a ferrari is considered “miley” because of it having driver miles. If the car is owned and driven properly 110k km (70k miles) this is not a problem as we showcase here. Our rabbit hole continues with more important driving experience Testarossa’s and other models to come… but this N/A car will never be forgotten. A proper custodian who understands the “how-to” is required for ownership of this machine.

The bright and originally Giallo yellow exterior stands out day and night… Delivered new to CORNES Japan it presents like a very low mileage car aided by a few exterior accents that aren’t commonly found on the average TR but add tons of character to the original Pininfarina design. To start, two of the aerodynamic streaks have been deleted on both doors leaving only three per side – creating large, defined openings to the air inlets. The front end is mostly factory but all bulbs have been replaced with white LED including the fully functional pop-up headlamps and fog lights. On the rear end you’ll find a custom Koenig single-element wing with custom carbon adjustable mounting stays to the rear engine cover and supporting rods on the backside. A six-tip custom exhaust, which is also illuminated by red LED’s inside the engine compartment pokes from underneath the rear bumper. The cherry on top? A bedazzled prancing horse… signature Japan. Overall the exterior presents amazingly well. Free of any major rock chips/scratches or dents and functional lighting.

Moving to the interior, the original light beige seats, carpeting and headliner has been removed and replaced with all black to better match the Giallo exterior. To compliment the new black trim, two matching Recaro fixed buckets were added with vintage 4-point Sabelt harnesses. The black dash leather shows good condition along with the matching door cards. Latches for the front boot and engine compartment work perfectly and the rear compartment is supported by pins on both sides. A polished shifter and 3XXmm Imola black leather steering wheel finish off the driver-focused interior motive.

Underneath the Koenig-winged rear hatch lies the heart of this high speed cruiser: a Red Headed 4.9L flat 12 which brings the infamous model name due to its red valve covers. The engine has been thoroughly refreshed by Supercar Mechanic in South Florida. The timing belt, cam seals and bearings were replaced and valves were adjusted. All consumables such as valve cover gaskets, spark plugs and fuel filters have been replaced as well. The oil and coolant tanks have been polished, the water pump was rebuilt and all new fluids were added. Output has been increased by tuning the CIS and adding a fully custom exhaust. Overall the drivetrain is extremely healthy. Cold and hot starts are clean with no starvation nor flooding at idle. All gears shift smoothly as well with newly installed shifter bushings.

Behind the custom-finished F355 Challenge Magnesium Speedlines sits a set of original and extremely rare AP Racing brake calipers that provide a crazy bite compared to OEM configuration. Ride quality is stiff and responsive… courtesy of a full set of Aragosta coilovers and AP Racing bbk. New Yokohama A052 tires complete the overall setup and provide high confidence at all speeds.

The overall driving experience in this configuration makes it feel as a perfect balance between a 512bb lm and a Testarossa, the modifications make its true sports car shine and respond better than normal without compromising street ability. The engine pulls unlike any Tr we’ve had, after 4k rpm it pulls very hard and changes the pitch drastically leading super car mechanic to believe this is a cammed Tip F113 although there is no confirmation of it.

We strongly suggest someone comes in person to feel and understand this particular machine how we do all of our cars, proper warm sequence and how to drive with your five senses. This is an experience to say the least, the better your footwork, the more rewarding a drive.
