Starting with a 77’ 930 turbo with no sunroof a customer of the famed Japanese Porsche tuning pro-shop Promodet Komine Engineering, decided to build something a little different, a NA 3.6L M64 stroked to a 4.0L with individual throttle bodies, a MoTeC ecu, and a full titanium exhaust including hand bent titanium headers. A benefit of using a Turbo as a base is the wider fenders and quarters from the factory allowing this 930 to fit a set of big lipped SSR professors under its wide arches. The tuning menu for the rest of car reads off like a dream build for any modified porsche enthusiast, AP racing big brakes all around, custom built coilover conversion with external reservoirs, 935 style control arms and crossmember, electric power steering, Close ration G50 5 speed, Autogarage TBK bumpers, 964 oil cooler, and a pair Recaro seats to top it off.
The idea for this car was to have turbo power without lack of response, at almost any rpm the acceleration on tap will surprise you and aid in your ability to control the car with easier throttle input. The styling of the car is that of a touge style canyon carver, the famed TBK kit has been utilized but with a twist. The fog lights have been moved to the center to give it a street rally look and allow for the fog light buckets to be utilized as cooling ducts allowing more air to reach the oil cooler at the lower speeds seen on a touge.
Mechanically this car is in excellent condition pulling hard to redline with plenty of torque at pretty much any time thanks to the increased engine capacity. Each gear you go through leads into a tight and precise shift into the next without making any fuss. In terms of power and drivetrain everything feels as it should and very healthy. Recent service includes timing chain guides, timing chain tensioner, oil change with Motul 300V 15w-50, sway bar bushing, a general inspection of the vehicle, and nut bolt track prep.
Thanks to the fully worked over suspension this 930 is on rails and allows for confidence when sending the torque of the 4.0L to the tires. All components of the suspension are in excellent condition and don’t make any squeaks or sounds out of the ordinary for a suspension setup of this caliber. Braking has been addressed with AP racing 6 piston calipers up front and 4 piston calipers in the rear, both being mated to two piece floating rotors and performance brake pads with plenty of life. The chassis of this 930 is in great condition showing no signs of an accident as well as no signs of corrosion.
On the outside this 930 definitely has the right look, in terms of condition it is very good with very few imperfections for a car of its age. The color enveloping the body of this 930 is a custom mixture that seems to have a base of a metallic graphite gray or gunmetal gray with a good bit of bronze and gold metallic mixed in, resulting in a color that changes a fair bit depending on the light. Moving to the interior it is in very good condition and only shows signs of wear indicative of its age. The leather covered Recaro SPGs are in good condition and have aged beautifully, the rest of the interior is in good shape with no major imperfections.
