The 930 Turbo presented here is a proper example of an American tuned hotrod turbo Porsche that also carries the prestige of being an original slantnose with a certificate of authenticity. Creating the street 935 presence this slantnose has, begins with the exterior, featuring a AIR 935 bumper, 935 style side skirts, and a DP motorsports rear deck lid. A proper hotrod is never just aesthetically tweaked, the factory 3.3L has been fully refreshed and fitted with some of the best era correct parts necessary to produce the 400whp this car is able to put down. Inside the drivers compartment the same trend of special era correct parts and 935 styling continues with many parts from D-Zug such as the full carbon lollipop bucket seats, 935 style shifter, and the “dial of death” manual boost controller just to list a few. In its totality this 930 Slantnose is a proper analog aircooled turbo experience providing the right sound, the right look and the right feel.
Prior to 1987 all slantnose 930s had to be ordered through the special wishes program making them much more rare, being a 1985 this slantnose is 1 of only 44 and 1 of only 204 total version 2 slantnoses. With this 930 turbo being a european market car one of the major differences is the fuel system, the european fuel system is much robust and has the ability to support more power due to the larger fuel lines running to the module and the fuel lines running to each cylinder. Another interesting aspect to note is the history of the vehicle, it was originally imported from Germany in 1989 by the father of a friend of ours. After being imported the car spent much of its life in Georgia being maintained and modified by local shops and other owners, we have some archival pictures of the cars early life in the US.
The analog feeling that is desired by many enthusiasts especially when it comes to aircooled Porsches is very much alive and amplified in this 930. The experience of driving this 930 is precisely what a turbo Porsche hotrod should be, the feeling of the 935 style shifter, the lowered seating position of the lollipops bucket seats, the timeless feel of the prototipo, the way the power comes on and the scream of the exhaust that goes with it all add up to a part of why we refer to it as a Street 935. As great as it is to feel like a racecar, another great aspect of this 930 is that it still maintains a reasonable amount of streetability, having a fully functional HVAC stystem, full interior, and a functioning audio system. All aspects of driving this 930 feels very tight with each input you make having a direct reaction from the car, the engine pulls strong all the way to the upper end of the revrange with the boost from the turbo hitting hard. Each gear change feels tight and precise thanks to the 935 D-Zug shifter and the Moorespeed refreshed transmission. The suspension feels firm yet compliant, taking bumps at high and low speed in stride thanks to the upgraded bilstein struts, adjustable sway bars, monoball front strut mounts, and with the majority of the other suspension components being refreshed.
Starting with the exterior the condition of this 930 is very good and presents nicly with only minor imperfects as to be expected with the age of the vehicle, the guards red paint covering the body presents nicely. The four 17 inch Fikse FM10 show very nicely with no curbrash or bends, a set of Nitto NT05 tires wrap the wheels in sizes 235/40 front and 315/35 rear. The interior has been kept in great condition showing minimal wear, the dash has no cracks and the suede covering the seats is in great condition with no excessive wear. Mechanically everything is tight and feels very fresh, all suspension feels tight yet compliant, the engine pulls strongly all the way through the revrange and the transmission shifts through each gear precisely and smoothly.
