Now available is a fairly unique 1987 BMW M6. Built for high speed highway cruising, it’s extremely well sorted with a plethora of the best modifications that nullify the factory headaches you may experience with a 40 year old BMW while keeping what everyone loves about a vintage M6.
When it comes to classic BMW’s, most enthusiasts look for extreme originality. Yes, the vintage M cars are somewhat entertaining to drive in their factory form (not really) but what happens when you add modern management and hardware while retaining original design spirit?
Under the hood you’ll find the original & renowned Euro-spec ITB M88/3 straight 6 that loves to sit at high RPM for extended periods of time. However, modern revisions have been made to increase reliability and overall confidence in the machine. Thanks to a Link ECU, management has been simplified and parameters and safeties are now available to the tuner & driver with electrical power being provided via an upgraded engine harness. Thanks to the ECU upgrade, the factory ignition system has been scrapped in place of a coil-on-plug conversion – utilizing Denso 1ZZ-FE coil packs.
A carbon fiber airbox feeds the factory ITB’s enhancing flow on the intake side. On the exhaust side, Supersprint headers accompanied by a full Supersprint true-dual exhaust increase flow and bring out the S38 symphony everyone loves.
The footwork setup on this E24 potentially shadows what’s under the hood. Starting with what’s most noticeable: the aggressive & quite rare flat black BBS RG153 wheels with massive silver Brembo GT brakes behind them. 6-piston calipers in the front and 4-piston calipers in the rear add power and consistency to heavy stopping situations. Lacking an E-brake because of the rear BBK? No problem. The original builder of this M6 in Japan designed a custom electric E brake kit utilizing a separate rear caliper and an electronic actuator controlled via a (P) button next to the shifter. Silvers coilovers and full powerflex bushing treatment give additional confidence at high speeds.
This E24 M6 definitely has a night vibe to it from a visual standpoint. Dark Delphine gray with flat black wheels gives a stealth look. A Euro front end stands out slightly more aggressive than the US variant as well. The paint presents nicely with no major flaws and the wheels show no scratches or chips.
The interior matches the exterior in aesthetic – greeting the driver with Recaro SR3 adjustable seats finished in black leather, matching black leather rear seats, and a custom suede dash. A Momo 350mm steering wheel and a Motec dash are present as well.
