The 1990 Guards Red 964 Carrera 2 presented here is a light weight ultra responsive hotrod of a 911 powered by a rebuilt hot 3.6 liter flat 6 paired with a G50 5-speed. With only 121,000 kilometers (75,000 miles) this 964 is in great mechanical condition as well as physical condition having clean paint and featuring no rust or accident history. This is one of the most fun and easy to drive 964s we have had the joy of offering for purchase.
With the introduction of the 964 generation of 911 came an increase in engine capacity bumping the flat 6 to 3.6 liters, this 964’s 3.6 has been fully rebuilt (compression test available upon request) and fitted with a set of equal length headers mated to a custom muffler. To take advantage of the engine’s increased aerobic ability as well as prevent the engine from stalling due to the light weight flywheel the factory computer has been remapped allowing the engine to make the power it is now capable of producing. Pairing the tuned 3.6 to the G50 5 speed transaxle is a lightweight clutch and flywheel assembly making for a much more “revhappy” engine. In addition to this an ATS limited slip differential has been added allowing for more consistent power delivery to both rear wheels.
The tuning of the chassis and suspension are arguably the most important part of building a fast car, in the case of this 964 it has had just the right tweaks to perform at a high level. In order to stiffen the chassis a rare Matter 4-point bolt in roll bar has been added along with a front strut bar. Suspension tuning has been handled with Bilstein coilovers front and rear along with front camber plates to aid in front end grip in corners. Providing the stopping power are 964 turbo front big brakes clamping down on 2 piece floating rotors, in the rear 964 C4 4-piston calipers have been fitted. The wheels fitted to the car are a set of freshly refinished Work Brombachers in the sizes 18×8.5 +54 front and 18×10 +47. The wheels are wrapped in Advan A052 tires with the sizes being 225/40 front and 255/35 rear.
The exterior of this 964 is finished in Guards Red and shows nicely with few imperfections. Modifications to the exterior include wider hips by way of slightly flared rear arches, a RSR style rear deck lid and a front lip. In addition to the more noticeable exterior modifications a few others have been performed to reduce weight, these include lexan rear quarter window, lexan rear window, and the factory sunroof has been cleanly deleted.
Moving to the interior the lightweight ideology is continued with RS style door cards, an RS carpet kit deleting the rear seats, and a Rennline floorboard kit with pedals. One of the best ways to decrease weight is by deleting parts, in the case of this 964 the radio and climate control have been removed to decrease weight and allow the driver to focus on the beautiful exhaust note with the windows down. For the surfaces the driver will be interacting with a 350mm Momo Prototipo, a weighted shift knob and Recaro SR3 seats paired with Schroth 6-point harness have been added. The condition of the interior is good, having an uncracked unwarped dashboard, along with the gauge faces showing nicely.
