Due to the high level of motorsports culture that is ingrained in both japan and many european countries, a specific style of vehicle often gets built – if you’re in Germany you may call it a “Ringtool” and if you are anywhere else, let’s call it a vehicle that is a weapon on track and a comfortable and reliable street car everywhere else. This 964 Turbo is an excellent example of everything listed prior and the formula for this specific 964 Turbo was to reduce weight, make it stick to the ground, increase response and power and keep it reliable and decently comfortable.
In order to achieve each part of the formula for this car specific modifications were made, culminating in what we refer to as a “Turbo street cup”. As with everything true balance is something that is not easy to achieve but when done creates a feeling of mechanical harmony. Most Turbo Porsche will have one area of performance that is lacking compared to the others but this 964 Turbo achieves a true balance of performance, comfort, and reliability.
Beginning with a GP white 97k kilometer (60k mile) rust free, straight chassis, the first order of business was general weight reduction achieved through the use of a fiberglass roof, fiberglass hood, fiberglass Turbo S deck lid and real light weight green graduated RS glass all around. Adding rigidity is a key part in the tuning of the chassis. To help with this a 6 point RS clubsport spec roll cage has been fitted as well as an adjustable front strut bar. With these parts the chassis portion is complete, giving a solid base to start from.
To keep this 964 stuck to the asphalt some extremely top tier components have been utilized including Quantum T3-CR coilovers with Hyperco springs at all four corners. All of the factory bushes and ball joints are in good condition as well. A full suspension inspection was conducted along with TQ check and marking for suspension bolts. Providing the all important power to stop are the factory 964 Turbo brakes with the addition of Goodridge braided stainless steel brake lines, Endless brake pads, and high temp brake fluid. For the final component of the footwork a set of 18 inch BBS E88s wrapped in Michelin PS4s have been fitted, for interested buyers we have other wheel options as well.
If the goal is to drive to-and-from a motorsports event, reliability is just as important as power. Providing a bit more kick the boost level has been increased to 1 bar, supporting this increase the CIS has been retuned by Stahl Motorsports, a cat delete has been fitted, and the wastegate dump tube has been gutted for a screamer pipe sound. The tone created by the combination of parts is very unique, it is relatively quiet off boost and cruising but the moment you come into boost and the wastegate cracks you hear the scream of the engine. A tight motor with propper tolerances and regular maintenance plays a key role in reliability. A full refresh of the engine was performed in 2022 during the cars stint in the Netherlands, this refresh included rings, bearings, crank polishing, cylinder wall resurfacing, clearance/tolerance check, and a full head refresh. In addition to the refresh in 2022, under our ownership we refreshed the fuel system, replaced the warm up regulator, a oil change with Motul 15w-50 300v along with anything and everything else needed. Transferring the power from the engine to the ground is the factory G50, a lightweight flywheel and a limited slip differential. Continuing the maintenance the transmission fluid was replaced during our course of maintenance. The result of all of this is a tight worry free engine and transmission that does everything as it should but just a little better. (Receipts available for work)
Spending time in the interior of a car intended to be dual purpose should be time that is comfortable but also conveys the message of meaning business. To keep a balance between comfort and weight loss key parts of the factory Magenta interior have been left in place, including the center console, and dashboard, both of which are in excellent condition. Other parts to aid in comfortability include rs style door panels with a magenta upper portion, factory seat belts, heel plates with floor mats, COLD AIR CONDITIONING, and a radio with speakers. Keeping in line with the idea of a light weight clubsport machine the interior has been mildly stripped down with no carpet, no rear seats, genuinely comfortable Recaro SP-G3 KK bucket seats, a new white Willians 4 point harness, MOMO 350mm Montecarlo, RS door panels, and the removal of all of the rear interior trim. Helping to tie the whole car together the interior portions of the chassis as well as rollcage have been painted to match the exterior.
In the looks department this Turbo is simple yet stunning, giving off as previously mentioned a “LTW Turbo S” vibe. Helping to convey this idea the addition of Turbo S rear fender vents, RS front brake ducts, Turbo S front lip, and a Turbo S rear decklid. Covering the exterior is the very motorsport Grand Prix white which is in excellent condition with very few imperfections
