1996 Ferrari 355 Berlinetta Challenge plus *This is a high level build, please take the time to read the description*
For the past couple years this 355 spent its time in the collection a client of ours who is notorious for is all black collection. during this time it was stored in a climate controlled garage and sparingly driven.
Check out the video of the collection on Larry Chen’s YouTube channel link down below
With over one hundred thousand dollars in receipts this 355 has been built to a spec that few builds ever achieve. The shop that spearheaded the project was Accel Engine Development Office out of Yokohama, with the intent to increase the durability of the stereotypically fragile Ferrari to allow it to run at the pace of air cooled Porsches on the circuit. The result of these modifications is what we like to call a 355 challenge plus. Since the recent refresh was completed only 1500km have been accrued.
The build list is as follows
Body work
Interior
Foot work
The fit and finish of the vehicle is excellent, finished in Ferrari Nero the exterior has received a few upgrades by way of a challenge rear wing, challenge rear grill, KSP carbon front lip, Gruppe M diffuser with Naca ducts integrated for the rear brake cooling ducts, and a custom vented rear bumper and it looks like an absolute weapon. The condition of the paint is very good with few imperfections. Turning attention to the interior it is better than a stock 355 with an assortment of Gruppe M carbon kevlar panels as well as being trimmed in Alcantara with yellow stitching. The seats are Ferrari 355 Challenge carbon kevlar seats recovered in the same Alcantara with yellow stitching as the rest of the interior. For the controls a Momo Montecarlo has been fitted, which pairs beautifully with the gated shifter. To give the Sabelt harnesses a place to attach a harness bar has been fitted which also does increase chassis rigidity.
Moving to the engine bay underneath the Gruppe M airbox and side panels you’ll find a fully tuned engine featuring a full TODA racing valve train and cams alongside high compression pistons, ported & polished heads, Accel direct ignition conversion, upgraded fuel injectors, ported intake manifold, all being controlled by a Motec M4 computer. To address cooling a pair of oversized radiators have been fitted along with a trick oil cooler. The end result of these modifications is a flat plane V8 that has the chop at idle of an american V8 but screams like the italian V8 it is at full throttle. (please see video attached)
To improve the handling characteristics of the 355 the suspension has been gone through and changes have been made when needed. In place of the stock coilovers a set of JRZ 12 series coilovers have been installed which are 3 way adjustable allowing for finer tuning of the compression and rebound characteristics. In addition to the coilovers a stiffer set of anti-roll bars have been added as well as a refresh of all of the suspension bushings. To allow for extended periods of aggressive braking a stoptech front and rear BBK has been fitted along with PFC pads.
