Vehicle Introduction
RMC Miami is proud to present this excellent example of a properly modified and restored 911 SC “clubsport” racer. Promodet Komine Engineering are the ones responsible for this entire build featuring a combination of in house developed components, and parts from top level tuning companies, all fitted to a rotisserie restored/improved 45k original kilometer 911 SC chassis.
The power weight ratio and feeling of the car is equivalent to a modern GT Porsche. 300kmh+. The short stroke allows for a real 2 stroke feeling that favors a driver who enjoys rpm and footwork. We have gone head to head with 2 991 3RS’s in a top speed battle on closed course for distance. The combination of the Quantum suspension, an extremely tied in chassis, and a set of humungous perfectly balanced and sized big brakes allow for any driver to be inspired with confidence. The carbs SING until 8300 rpm and pulls away from just about anything. This car is a force to be reckoned with.
Chassis & Footwork
Starting with factory sunroof delete 45k kilometer 1980 911 SC Promodet proceeded to strip the car down to a bare shell and build from there. To improve stiffness an 8-point rollcage tied into the A & B pillars was fitted, the rear upper strut mounts were very reinforced, semi-stitch welding and a front strut tower bar was added after all this the entire chassis inside and out was finished in Grand Prix White that is in excellent condition through out. In an effort to drop some weight out of the car carbon doors, carbon hood, IROC RSR style fiberglass bumpers, fiberglass rear deck lid, and full lexan windows except for the windshield.
In place of the factory torsion bars and struts is a full set of Quantum coilovers along with all of the supporting components to convert to coilovers. In addition to the coilover conversion, larger antiroll bars, spherical tie rod ends with bump steer correction spacers, delrin front control arm bushings, and new bushings throughout have all been fitted resulting in an incredibly well tuned suspension set up that feels tight yet compliant. To address braking a set of Brembo f50s and 993 turbo calipers have been fitted to the front and rear respectively, pairing with larger calipers are 2-piece floating rotors at all four corners. Controlling the pressuring going to the brakes is a proper dual master setup with brake balance adjustable from in the cabin. The wheels fitted are a set of 17inch Work Meister S1 2Ps.
Engine & Drivetrain
Promodet is one of the top Porsche tuners in Japan that have been responsible for some extremely rapid street cars and race cars, with that being said this SC balances being a high revving club racer while still retaining great street manners. The engine set up put together by Promodet is a high revving short stroke 3.3L that delivers an experience similar to a two stroke egging you on to find 8300 rpm redline. Pairing with engine is a G50 5 speed which is both more user friendly and a fair bit stronger than a 915, the conversion to the G50 plays sizable role in the good street manner this car exhibits.
With all of this being said this 1980 SC punches well above its weight class and is truly a great example of the high level Porsche tuning that is carried out by Promodet Komine Engineering.
