One of our most cherished tuners at RMC, iDing Power takes an approach using both science & soul to create vastly improved versions of some of the world’s premier engines.  Specializing in BMW & Ferrari engine overhaul, assembly & tuning with a vast history.  The company was founded in 1974 specializing in Japanese domestic cars & touring cars.  But the real inspiration came in 1984 when Ide-San studied abroad at the BMW Motorsports department.  This is where he was taught the foundation of BMW’s powerplant engineering, learning the strengths and weak points.  The following year, “Iding Power” as a brand came to be, and their first shop cars were born.  A E30 325i & an E28 M5, both featured in Car Graphic Magazine of the respective year.  The rest as they say, is history.

An Emotive Driving Experience

Straight away, the car is a lot of fun to drive.  There’s a little kick in every gear, and you can certainly feel it.  The powerband is across the board is phenomenal, even more so when on throttle.  The car doesn’t have the dip in RPM during hard acceleration through a range of gears and provides a pull normally foreign to the E30 M3.  Braking & suspension tuning are all in line with the thesis of engine tuning.  The brakes have sharp, immediate functionality bringing the moderately lightened M3 to a quick stop.  The car is very quick in corners and almost too much fun on more technical routes.  It’s light on it’s feet, it’s light hearted with a happy revving motor.  It’s what you want out of a sports car of the 80’s.

Iding’s S2+A package provides an entire overhaul of the S14 unit.  A balance adjustment is performed followed by deburring of irregularties on cast surfaces finishing off with a polish.  Their in-house special processing improved intake & exhaust efficiencies with a big change in engine characteristics.  As Iding says, “It is a specification that has been compiled into a car that pursues the excellence of machine controllability, which is the basic form of tuning”.  Bravo.

All in all, this car is a bevy of great talking points rolled into one.  From the aforementioned performance enhancements, to a richly documentented history of not only the build but maintenace over a plethora of years.  Even the paper that the records are printed on is extremely high quality, it’s about the details!  113 pages of documentation including Dyno sheets.  The interior is in amazing condition, without tears in any of the fabrics.  The driver seat is a black recaro unit whilst the passenger is covered in M-cloth with streaks of the classic ///M colors.  The back seats are covered in a plaid cloth (factory material).  All of the instrumentation works including dash lights, radio & on-board computer.  Sunroof, & Air conditioning (hot & cold) are in working order.  Door cards are in great condition, both the fabric & leather.  There are light scratches on the interior plastics, along with an ABS light as it has been deleted.  This would be considered an amazing example of the E30 M3, let alone the iDing Power touch!
